Striking the Right Note in Communication when Meeting Online
April 23, 2009
Online dating can be a lot of fun, especially if you are new at it. If you are tired of the bar scene, or the dating scene in general, online dating can come as a shot in the arm. However, online dating is not without pitfalls. Online dating often requires a good amount of tact, patience, and of course, typing. One of the major challenges of online dating is trying to strike the right tone when you can’t see the person you are trying to get to know better.
This is often the reason a lot of people actually get into online dating: it allows them to be themselves, and express themselves in a way that is simply impossible in face-to-face dating. However, there are certain challenges that you must overcome in order to be a successful online dater.
Remember: online dating is a written medium
It’s easy to forget sometimes that online dating begins as a written medium. Before the phone calls and the in person meetings, it all begins with the written word. It starts when you spot the online dating profile of someone, someone who just happens to catch your eye.
Why does one profile stand out over another? The secret has to do in the way it is written. Some people are able to express themselves very well there written words, while others tend to struggle with putting together the perfect profile.
How can you put together the best profile? First, if you are not sure about how to put together a good online dating profile, a good rule of thumb is to keep it short and friendly. Tried be as specific as possible.
Make a list of your favorite hobbies, things that you really enjoy doing, not things that you think other people will find interesting. Remember, your goal is to find someone who is truly compatible. Don’t try to impress anyone, just be honest. Although you definitely want to keep your profile short, make sure that it is thorough and complete.
What you should avoid talking about
At the beginning of an on-line courtship, you would be best off avoiding certain subjects. For instance, you probably already know that it’s a bad idea to discuss politics and religion on a first date. The same holds true for online dating. You want to avoid heavy subjects right off the bat. This would include financial problems, health problems, family problems, and bad relationships that you’ve had in the past.
At the very beginning of an online relationship, you want to find out more about the person. Thus, he will want to know more about their interests, what they do, what they do for fun, and family, and other light topics.
Be flirty, not silly
Many fine online relationships have withered away due to lack of commitment and seriousness. Some relationships turn into casual friendships that consist of nothing more but emoticon-filled emails. It can be hard to avoid the temptation to be very flirty when you’re online. Although there is nothing wrong with being flirty, especially at the beginning of a relationship, you can only take it to a certain limit.
Teasing, comedy, or a general silliness is good to a certain point. However, in order for your relationship to develop into something serious, eventually you will have and did a little deeper.
Be honest and straightforward about your feelings
One of the biggest challenges with online dating has to do with honesty. People often feel that because they’re not face to face with the other person, they can get away with not telling the whole truth. You should always avoid telling lies, no matter how big or small. If the other person seems evasive or you catch them and a lie, do not be overly confrontational.
Simply present the facts, as you know them. Another major problem with honesty and online dating has to do with how people communicate their feelings toward one another. Just because you decide not to pursue a relationship with someone Online, does not mean that they don’t deserve a straightforward answer.
Some people believe that they can simply let a relationship languish and the other person will gradually get the hint. This is disrespectful of the other person and a waste of time for both of you. If you have no intention of pursuing a relationship, did not give the other person any reason to suspect you will. Be honest about your feelings-it will save both of you a lot of time and energy.

Organizing your Online Dating Life
April 23, 2009
Online dating is the new way to find a partner for life or for at least a certain amount of time. Ever since the Internet first became popular, online dating slowly grew bigger and bigger and more and more singles people are using the Internet.
Online dating has come far from the days when it was considered “geek” or “loser” sites. People from all different backgrounds use online dating services to find a partner. Therefore it can be overwhelming to make sense of all the profiles found online and also to get the proper responses to ones own profile.
Many online dating services now offer hundreds or thousands of profiles that one can choose to contact, but only a few might be close to the right person. Therefore it is important that one is able to use search functions and search engines that are offered by online dating services properly. Before getting started with a search for a partner online, it is important to know what exactly one is looking for. Some people are looking for partners of a certain height, age, religion, or profession.
All these criteria can actually be used to type into the search function of the online dating service to drastically reduce the amount of profiles that pop up when looking for the perfect partner. Other people are trying to find someone that shares hobbies and interests, so that spare time can be filled with common activities. The search engine generally allows for many of these aspects to be used to narrow down the search results and excludes any that will not fit the profile one is looking for.
Although it is important to know what a person is looking for as far as a partner goes, it might sometimes happen that one profile sticks out more than another or that the one persons which whom e-mails were exchanged with seems to be ”the one”.
This person might not fit the criteria set one hundred percent, but still it could be the one. Therefore it is important to check out all different kinds of profiles and sometimes to trust intuition or instinct when selecting partners for dates. Sometimes the right one is not the dream partner, but he or she might still be better.
Sometimes it might happen that many people are interested in your own profile and then many e-mails might fly into the inbox. Responding to all the e-mails one receives due to his or her profile might not always be possible and is also not necessary.
Only the ones that are truly interesting to one need to be responded to. Of course, there is such a thing as e-mail etiquette and courtesy, but it does not directly apply to answering many unnecessary e-mails.
Another good tip for all online daters is to organize their dating. Online profiles are out there for anybody to check out and whenever one sees a profile he or she is really interested in, it might be important to answer fast, since someone else might be interested too. Having the possible partner for life slip away due to bad timing might be one of the worst things in the online dating starting phase.
Pictures are there to be looked at. Even though society tries to tell us not to judge by the looks of someone, it is allowed to check out pictures. After all, one cannot be with a partner that is not attractive to him in all the ways possible. Nature has made men and women in a certain way so that they can attract each other.
Of course, attraction is based on more than looks, but looks play a great role in relationships. Which also means to have successful hits on ones own profile, the picture that is posted might make all the difference. A pretty and beautiful picture makes much more of an eye catcher than a funny or unattractive one.

Avoiding the Common Mistakes of Internet First Time Daters
April 23, 2009
There is no getting around the fact that the need can be hard. In fact, dating can be brutal. But then there are those dates, those magical nights that make all the other one’s worth it. Online dating has officially entered the mainstream. It is now considered one of the most acceptable ways to get a date, and hopefully, make a very real connection.
But no matter how long it you have been on the dating market, chances are it that you will eventually make mistakes. If you know that someday he will probably make a small to huge dating mistake, you will be better prepared to handle it when that day finally arrives. Here are some tips for avoiding common online dating mistakes, and advice on how to deal when you can’t avoid them.
Not knowing what you really want
This is a common mistake. Many of us go on line and are quickly overwhelmed with the sheer number of profiles available for our perusal. Before you click on that contact button, take a moment and make a full appraisal of the situation. This is a crucial step that many on-line daters skip entirely. Ask yourself why you are attracted to this person.
Is it for the right reasons, or is it simply because you find their picture attractive? The right reasons are that you seem to have a lot of things in common, you seem to share a similar sense of humor or outlook on life, and you seem to share common dating goals. You will save a lot of time and energy if you take a moment and decide whether it you really should contact that person. Not knowing what you want can cause a lot of grief and lost time.
Not being honest with the other person
Another common mistake that seems to thrive in the online dating universe is an overall lack of honesty and clarity. In a lot of people let relationships go on too long that should probably be ended much earlier. Do not try to spare anyone’s feelings. If you find that you are no longer attracted to someone, or simply do not see a future beyond a friendship, let the other person know right away.
You are not doing them any favors by giving them hope. A tactful and honest communication style will get you a long way in the often complicated and messy world of online dating.
Letting relationships drag on too long before the first in person meeting
One of the major on-line dating mistakes seems to occur when two people let their online relationship get the best of them. This is especially common with couples that are shy, tentative, or simply lack an open communication style. If you find yourself very interested in the other person, you will want to set up a real date as soon as possible.
Although it may be tempted to remain in e-mail and telephone mode, in order for a relationship to take flight, the two of you need to meet face to face. E-mail and phone relationships often languish or settle into a comfortable pen pal-like friendship. Avoid this scenario by being honest and open with your online in trust. Let them know right away that you are interested in meeting in person after a couple of weeks of the mailing and talking on the phone.
Moving too fast
The opposite of the previously delineated problem is moving too fast. Maybe you took one look at someone’s profile and you thought you were destined to be together. As romantic as this sounds, it is probably not very realistic.
Before you set up an in person date, take the time to get to know the other person via e-mail and telephone. The last thing you want to do is expand the time and energy of a real date, and then find out you really have nothing in common.

With the more, those of us who don’t take a perfect photograph will also be at a disadvantage.

However, be prepared to find people who seem perfect, but who are located somewhere far away.

Clues to Spotting that Fake Online Profile
April 23, 2009
Online dating is becoming more and more popular. Already about half of American adult singles are using online dating services to find their perfect match. Online dating is easy, accessible for everyone and also the ideal tool to find the perfect match. Despite all the advantages of online dating, there are still risks involved.
Some of the risks come from the Internet itself, such as viruses, hackers and identity theft. Therefore a good protection against any virtual attacks is always a good idea. After all of this in order, there are more things that can be problematic when Internet dating. For example, there is the issue of fake profiles and of course, the way to spot them to avoid being scammed through online dating.
Several things in a person’s online profile can help to detect fake profiles. There is no guarantee that keeping an eye out for those profile tell-tales will keep the scammers from still contacting other people and it also does not mean that everyone that has these flaws in their profile is actually a scammer. Therefore when looking for the following clues, it has to always be done using common sense to judge the profile in general.
One clue that might make a profile a fake profile is if a person asks in his or her profile or in the e-mail to check out one of his or her other web pages. This does not automatically mean it is a fake, but in some of the fake cases this is an invitation to an adult entertainment web page or to a small fake online dating web page that tries to use the information and sell it.
Similar to the first clue are e-mail responses to ones profile that go into detail and are getting right to it, while the user never had contact with this person before. This could be someone looking to lure people to their own site or to other related services. This is especially true, if the profile of the user is not even uploaded, but rather only started. Therefore the person would not even know if the user is going to be a match or not.
On some of the online dating pages, foreigners from poor countries such as Eastern Europe, Asia or Africa try to find someone to fall in love with them to get a ticket to the US and to a US citizenship. Their poor written English, full of spelling or grammar errors will help you spot these profile or e-mail contacts. Of course, a foreigner could be the perfect match, one never knows, but in general they are only trying to find a way to become an American rather than trying to find true love.
E-mails and contacts that respond to the profile and ask for personal information, such as Address, name, phone numbers and especially social security numbers are fore sure fakes. These people either try to scam the online dating users or to collect data for some sort of agency. It is especially important o never give too much personal information out over the Internet and this counts particularly for social security numbers.
One last clue that could mean fake profile or fake user is a profile or e-mail response that sounds almost perfect. When does it happen that some guy or girl out there exactly likes the things that are requested in another persons profile and additionally looks great or is super charming?
Generally when using one of the bigger sites that have been around for a while, fake profiles are very rare. Most of these sites do attempt to weed through the vast amount of dating profiles when they are submitted to spot the fakes and take them out of commission before anyone ever can fall for it.
Stereotypical Male Roles That Women Should Avoid Dating
April 23, 2009
Dating can be a minefield, right ladies? Too often Mr. Right turns into Mr. What-Was-I-Thinking almost overnight. If you are tired of finding out too late in the game the guy you have on the go is a complete dud, check out these stereotypical guys that should have you running for the door from your very first meeting. Avoiding these guys will have you well on your way to finding that needle in the haystack, your perfect man.
The first type of guy that should have you running for the hills is the guy that is still attached – very tightly – to his mother’s apron strings. Now, sure, his closeness to his mother will seem endearing at first. You’ll be telling yourself that any man that treats his mother with such respect and reverence must know a lot about how to treat a woman well. It turns out you’ll just be kidding yourself when you say that.
Super mom will become mother-in-law from hell if you try to go the distance with this guy, and if it comes down to you or her, he’s going to pick her every time. Admit it – that’s just creepy. Plus, he’s likely to be way immature and need you to his pseudo mother instead of his girlfriend on those rare occasions you get him to yourself.
Guy number two to run away from is the gym rat, muscle bound type. A nice body is something to be admired in a man, of course, and earning that six-pack takes hard work. Staying in decent shape is one thing, however. Staying in Mr. Universe shape is quite another. This man loves himself so much he hardly knows how to fit you in.
Once you get tired of staring at the muscles, you’ll notice he hasn’t tired of it himself and glances at him in every reflective surface he walks past. Add to that a fondness for fake tanner and bikini bottoms, and your hot muscle man has just become major cornball. If he can tear himself away from the weights long enough, cut him loose.
The third guy you should avoid is a little harder to spot. That’s because he knows just how to play you. That’s right, this guy is the player. He’ll make you feel so very special, he’ll wine you and dine you, and he’ll be perfect at satisfying your every wish and desire. The thing is that he’s just as perfect at doing that Sally, Susie, Rosie and Tiffany, too.
Once he’s got you, you’ll move to the bottom of the rotation. Your dates will become less frequent. He’ll get phone calls he needs to take in private when you are together. He may or may not need to borrow money. Once you get over the heartache, you’ll spend months kicking yourself for not seeing it coming. Avoid the hassle and let Mr. Smooth Talker sail on by to his next victim.
The last scary guy on the list is Mr. Career Orientated. Yes, a man with a drive to succeed and a passion for what he does is a good thing. These traits suggest that he is responsible and grown up. But a man that doesn’t know how to balance his job and his relationship with you is not such a good thing.
You may be cheering for his office victories at first and supportive for those first few all-nighters, but in the end, you’ll be pleading for a just a little face time with him. You should come first, period, and with this guy, he’ll always be putting you off for a shot at that big promotion.
This list goes a long way to sending giving you a heads up about the guys to run from, but it is not exhaustive. Look for your own red flags, and when they start adding up, head for the door so you can move on to better things.
